My Afro Hair New Year Resolution

2016 is going to be a year of natural hair experimentation for me. For the past 3 years, I have been protective styling and growing it out, just waiting for it to get to knee length. Now I am flipping bored. I have been yearning for length, with a bit of health.

I have been wigging it lately and it is a quick glamorous change from sitting for 4 hours and having my scalp manipulated into submission for a braid style which will last less than 2 months. Such a pain, literally and it can cost up to ?80 to install. Hair…natural hair is big business now.

This year, I am getting another hair cut.

For a natural afro haired person, it is a big deal but I have been itching for a tapered hair cut. I have already booked the stylist who cut my hair in the first place. It’s about to go down (Kevin Hart voice)

I do love a bit of colour too and I am the deep and mysterious, forest green, dark purple and blue black aficionado. This is difficult to pull off if you don’t want to bleach your hair and it is already dark brown. I did put Manic Panic’s After Midnight in a month ago and it was magical. You could see the hue of blue in my afro whenever the sun or florescent lighting hit it.

Being experimental with colour means a whole lot of TLC for the tresses, so fortnightly deep conditioning and weekly/biweekly scalp cleanses are all in order. I also have purchased hair supplements like Biotin and MSM to take to aid in hair growth. It’s going to be a non commutable relationship. I will let you know how that goes. What are your hair goals for 2016? Holla
