If there’s one make-up trend us women of colour don’t have an issue with, it should be pulling off a bold, dark lip or a “vampy lip” (as some of us may refer to it as) for autumn. There’s no doubt that this is definitely a popular trend for this season that many darker skin ladies have been rocking confidently. Be sure to hide away your nudes, corals and the rest of your spring lippies; be brave and opt for maybe a wine or deep purple depending on your level of courage for these deep shades.
For those who are just starting out with these shades, why not use a lipstick like Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey. This is a very deep blackcurrant shade but due to its ultra sheer finish it makes it wearable for the faint-hearted or those who are just getting into the vampy trend. If you’re still feeling uncomfortable, try maybe wearing it around the house until you’ve managed to gain confidence in wearing it. Another option you may try is MAC Dubonnet which is a wine shade. Wine shades are also great for those who are still scared to go for the full on dark lip look.
Ok so you’ve plucked up some courage now?
For those who’ve managed to pass the ‘faint-hearted’ step and want something more intense, why not up the level and go for a shade like Mary Kay Compassion which has a satin-like finish or MAC Hang-up? Though hang-up is a deep berry shade, its creme sheen finish tones it down slightly! If these are too easy for you, opt for a plum shade, for example, MAC Rebel which also has a satin finish but is more intense.
Bold, brave and ready to go?
You’ve reached the level where no bold shade can knock you down! It’s time to fish for those ultimate deep shades. If you’re sure that you’re ready have a go at wearing a matte lipstick such as Revlon Wine Not or if you dare, MAC Film Noir!
Do you dare to wear any of these shades? Let me know how brave you are!
