Why you are not getting rid of your oily skin

Combination or oily skin is the most common skin concern affecting both men and women. Speaking from experience, I know how annoying it is. Since heating puberty I have suffered with oily skin and acne. Due to this, I am always on the lookout for skin care that solves my dilemma.  However, this search is not easy and rather tedious if you ask me. With millions of beauty brands and them making their claims it can can feel like a  mediocre beauty circus with lots of acts and little affect on you.

Regardless of the method of treatment I take I use I still suffer from excess oil. Overtime i have learnt that there are various reasons to why all my hard work at controlling my skin has not worked.

Cleansing too often

We all get frustrated with the appearance of oily skin leaving your skin greasy and lets face it, its not sexy. To combat this we over cleanse. Using products such as face wipes and cleansing way too often in the day. By over cleansing you are stripping your skin from oil causing your skin to produce more to compensate. Cleansing twice a day is enough to remove dirt and makeup without stripping the skin.

Harsh products

If you suffer from breakouts or acne, you will probably be looking for something to get rid of your spots.  Most spot treatments contain harsh products to reduce the oil and bacteria from the skin. Opt for simple products that will moisturise and maintain the balance of the skin. Use a sensitive cleansing facial wash to soothe the skin but still cleansing the skin. To treat the breakouts use a treatments such as face masks and serums to tackle the acne.

Your makeup

No matter how much you are taking care of your skin, your makeup can counteract all your hard work. We all want to cover out breakouts with foundations and concealer but using the wrong type can make things work. Avoid using cream foundations and opt for liquid or gel foundations. BB creams are great for taking care of the skin without blocking the spots. Use non-  comedogenic foundations to prevent blockages in the skin. Dermalogica offers a treatment foundation which is non-comedogenic  and fragrance free whilst taking care of the skin. Simply pop into your Dermalogica salon and spa to get your skin tone matched.

Wrong products

As well as using harsh products on the skin, using the wrong one can also increase your shine and breakouts. Every skin is different even if we have the same skin type. What works for others doesn’t mean it will work for you. Trial and error is the best in learning about the right products for you. When trying out a new product trial for 3 months to get a good opinion about the product and it gives your skin a good time to settle with the product. The skin in general takes 4 weeks for new skin cells to produce so take your time. Obviously if you get adverse reactions, do not continue with the product.

The season has a great effect on the skin. Hotter months means more oil production, while cold months means drier skin. Adapt your skincare regime to suite the season. Generally, lighter products in summer and heavier in winter.

Stress can put your body in imbalance causing drastic hormonal changes as your body tries to protect itself. This can cause further breakouts making your skin deteriorate. As much time that you put into your skin stress can reverse all your hard work. To help alleviate stress find ways to help relax you such as exercise, finding a hobby and maybe writing.

What you are eating

Working on your skin externally is important but not as much as working internally. Ensure that you are eating a balanced diet as well as key foods. Why not have a look at neals yards superfood range which provides essential foods to take care of your skin.

Now that you have an idea about what you might be doing wrong take your time to begin the new process to a better skin.
